Intern, Mohamed Abdillahi, BS
Mohamed Abdillahi is an Intern with the Northern New England Society
of Addiction Medicine (NNESAM), where he is leading the development
of a comprehensive regional resource hub to support addiction
medicine providers across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. His
work focuses on improving access to evidence-based information and
strengthening collaboration among healthcare professionals working to
address substance use disorders throughout Northern New England.
Mohamed holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of
Maine at Augusta, and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology at
The University of New England, expected in May 2026. His academic and professional interests
include epidemiology, health equity, and the prevention and treatment of substance use
disorders. Prior to his public health training, he completed five years of medical studies at the
Medical University of Abidjan, where he focused on clinical pathology and tropical infectious diseases
diseases, including malaria.
In 2014, Mohamed founded Multicultural Community and Family Support Services (MCFSS), a
nonprofit organization based in Lewiston, Maine, dedicated to supporting refugee and immigrant
communities through social services, housing assistance, and community integration. During
the COVID-19 pandemic, he led public health outreach efforts that included delivering
multilingual education, coordinating vaccination clinics, distributing personal protective
equipment, and collaborating with public health agencies to improve access to care among
underserved populations.
Mohamed is also the founder and owner of Genuine Home Care, a home health agency serving
older adults in Maine. In addition, he serves as a certified interpreter and translator with the
Maine Judicial Branch, providing services in Somali and French. He resides in Lewiston, Maine,
and remains committed to advancing public health and supporting diverse communities across
the region.
