About the Inn

The Bethel Inn was opened in 1913 by Dr. John George Gehring and his grateful wealthy patients from “away,” many of whom were in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Don’t miss the Tiffany bronze plaque displayed proudly in the lobby in testimony to the Inn’s unique origins.

Dr. Gehring was a pioneer who recognized the need to deal with both mind and body simultaneously to provide effective treatment. His treatment included healthy outdoor activities like chopping wood and weeding gardens, combined with formal dinners at the Gehring home where Mrs. Gehring would preside over a squad of servants presenting elegant courses.

November is the off season for this resort town — rated #1 Ski Town in North America by USA Today, 2019. However, the Bethel Inn offers many other amenities for nurturing  mind and body — including year-round outdoor heated pool, heath club, spa services, miles of hiking, and casual upscale dining.
